Where's Your Favorite Place to Visit?

Where’s your favorite place to visit? Do you prefer exotic cities like Paris or Rio? Or do you enjoy mountain towns like West Yellowstone or Breckinridge Colorado? Big cities like LA or New York? Then there’s seaside villas where you can hear the ocean waves crashing against the beach.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit many of these places and I’ve decided I like getting away from rushing traffic and the hub bub of people.

One of my favorite places is spending time in Yellowstone. I especially love the park in September or October. Less people. Cool temperatures. Lots of wildlife.

We had coyotes, elk and bears.

Hunting - Yes or No?

I just spent three days in the mountains of Northern Utah and so enjoyed it. The cool temperatures were exhilarating. The fall colors are starting to fade, but there were enough bright yellow leaves on the quaking aspens, the brilliant red orange on the oak brush, both set against a background of green pines and clear blue skies with puffy clouds making an awesome sight as we drove our ranger looking for elk. Didn't see many elk, but the deer were plentiful, mostly does and fawns enjoying the nice days. Now and again a big moose would show itself and turkeys and grouse could be seen hunting and pecking in the tall grass.

It was on one of these types of camping trips that my story, Hunting Honeymoon, was thought up. Oh, we now stay in either our cozy cabin or our motorhome with lots of conveniences (yes, flushing toilets) but in our younger days, we took our tent and had some really fun times camping.

Hunting Honeymoon brings back memories of trips where I had to find a brush to hide behind because there was no outhouse. The frustration of having my husband off hunting with his brother and friends. The warm feeling of sitting around a campfire. We cooked over the fire with Dutch ovens and I still feel like our food tasted better when we did.

I Love Fall!

Today we drove up to our cabin, and it's breathtakingly beautiful. The colors aren't as vibrant as they are some other years, but the sky is a robins-egg blue with only a few wispy clouds. The temperature is balmy, a relief from the unusually hot summer we've had.

We took a drive through the mountains and saw several does with their fawns milling about, probably enjoying the moisture from last night's rainstorm as it sits on the leaves they feed on.

It's beautiful and peaceful -- a perfect way to spend the day.  I hope you're enjoying your day as much as I am mine.

Yellowstone National Park

We just returned from a wonderful family vacation to my favorite places, Henry's Lake in Idaho and Yellowstone National Park. We spent time doing some fishing, eating yummy food (sometimes too much) and lots of sightseeing. We lucked out and got to see so many animals -- eleven bears including grizzley and cubs, elk, coyotes, buffalo, bald eagles -- too many animals to mention. Yellowstone National Park is a beautiful place to enjoy nature. This time of year it was so green and pretty.

On our way home, we stopped at a fun park - Yellowstone Bear World. It's located out of Rexburg, Idaho, and is a perfect way to see bears, wolves, elk and other wild animals up close while in the comfort of your own automobile. As I read about their vision, it brought back memories of the old days when you could easily see bears every day while in Yellowstone. That has changed some, and so the owners of Yellowstone Bear World have created a place where that is possible. You can drive through the park and see all types of wildlife. For the kids, there is a petting zoo where children can actually interact with deer, chickens, pigs, etc, as well as watch bear cubs being bottle fed. I have to admit, though, that I spent alot of time watching people, looking for new and interesting characteristics for my hero and heroine in an upcoming story. Can't seem to turn my author mind off -- guess that's all right because it's what makes things interesting as I write -- right?

It's always fun to go on vacation, but it's nice to be home. At least it will be when our air conditioning gets fixed!
