Happy Valentines Day

Valentines Day is traditionally the day for love.  When I saw the above thought, I realized how appropro it is right now.  Everyday I see couples and wonder what one sees in the other--a hunky guy with an ordinary woman; a tall woman with a short guy.  You know what I'm saying?  I think the thought above says it all.  It reinforces that beauty is only skin deep or beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Aren't you glad?  We need all types of people to make the world go round, and isn't it great that it doesn't matter who you are, what you look like, what your background is--there is someone out there who will love you and appreciate your inner beauty.

As you celebrate Valentines Day, take time to let those you care about know you love them.  Let your family members know you care.  Tell your wife, husband, or significant other that they're special.  Give your kids and grandkids hugs.  Recognize your neighbors and let them know you appreciate them.  Find time to help a sick person.  I think everyone loves to be acknowledged.  Don't be stingy with your hugs, and most importantly, don't forget yourself.  Appreciate you for what you are.  Love knowing you are a special person.

I'm in A Deep Freeze!

In Utah, we're in a deep freeze.  Literally, it's cold -- no freezing is a better word.  You know the kind of cold when you breathe out and your breath freezes when you do? The temperature outside is 3 degrees.  Now I know many other areas are colder, but it's mighty frigid here. I have to admit though it's gorgeous outside.  The sky is blue and the prettiest color I've seen in awhile.  The sun is shining, making the snow-covered ground sparkle.  You'd think you are walking in a sea of diamonds.   The fourteen inches of snow crunches under your feet and icicles hang from the rooftops. 

Skiers are loving it.  Ice fishermen are flocking to the lakes and catching fish.  Me, I'm staying warm by the fire watching the flickering flames and writing a new story.  Want to hear a little about it?  Well, I'm going to tell you about it because I love talking about my stories.

Have you ever been rabbit hunting on an empty expanse of desert with an attractive partner?  Well, my story begins just like that --two avid hunters enjoying an afternoon.  My heroine loves to hunt and, in fact, can outshoot most guys.  My hero is an ordinary guy, but he's strong and protective, loving and sexy, and determined to protect her no matter what.  He's a hero in every sense of the word.

As evening approaches, the weather changes and a huge snow storm hits.  Things go real bad when they get two flat tires, making it inpossible to drive out of the desert and get home.  They find some shelter, meet up with two crooks, and must flea through the storm for their lives. My characters have to find a way to survive in the middle of the desolation where there's nothing but sagebrush, rabbits, coyotes and no civilization for miles.   

There's a sprinkle of delicious sex, some danger and suspense.  It's a short story, a great read.  To find out more, you'll have to wait and buy the story.

Happy New Year 2013

New Years is a time for reflection of the things we accomplished, the friends and family we spent time with, the fun places we may have visited, and a time to put those memories – good and bad – away into our minds and look to the future.  As I watched the celebrations going on around the world when we ended 2012 at midnight, I found myself thinking are we celebrating the end of a year or celebrating because we have a chance to begin anew?

A new year is the time when people make new goals, strive to do better, and find ways to improve their lives, their careers, their relationships.   To me, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what we did that made us happy and what we need to change because I think finding that place in your life that brings you happiness is so very important.

I thought I’d share a couple of things I want to do this year.  I don’t make goals because for some reason, I never seem to complete a goal list.  I know I’m told to identify the individual steps that will make the goal more attainable, but I’m one of those people who veers off and soon the goals are put behind me.  But, I am a person who has things I want to accomplish, things I feel I need to do, both in my personal life and in my writing.  Here are a few of them:

1.       I want to work harder to be more positive.  I find things tend to pull me down, and I don’t like the person I become when this happens.

2.       I want to find more time to write.  I love writing and creating new stories.  Several years ago, writing became my passion, and too often I let life – household chores, errands, family, friends, etc., get in the way of my finishing a new story.  I want to change that.

3.      I want to work on getting more healthy.  It seems like everyday someone is telling us how to eat better, exercise more, and I need to find that path that fits me and my lifestyle.

4.      I plan to be happy.  I plan to spend time with my husband and family playing, camping, riding our ATVs, and spending time in the mountains enjoying our cabin and the wildlife.  Even though this is number four on my list, it really should be number one and top of the list for me.

5.      I want to help others.  I can mentor someone who is trying to start writing.  I can give of my time to someone who is sick.  I hate to admit it, but too often I don’t go the extra mile to help someone and I don’t like being that type of person.

6.      I want to be more positive.  Have you found like I have that it’s easier to agree with negative things that are being said than to take a stand and say something positive, uplifting, or good?

So here’s my little bit of advice as we start a new year - 2013:  Spend time with someone you love.  Smile when you can.  Find a great book to read.  Do one thing every day that makes you happy. I really believe these things will help me be a happier person in 2013 and I hope it will help you, too.

In all seriousness, whether you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or another holiday I don't know about, I wish you the very best this season.  May peace and joy fill your hearts, may you enjoy whatever traditions you have, and may you have the best the New Year can offer.

 

We celebrate Christmas by spending it with family.  We'll get together with my children and grandchildren, and it's always fun to watch the little ones' eye's grow big and wide with excitement as they open presents and play with their cousins.

 

I have much to be thankful for.  I have a loving husband, wonderful family, healthy grandchildren, and can still spend tine with my father who is healthy and doing well at age 86.  I have a comfortable home, a rambuctious yellow lab, many, many friends, and the list goes on.  Too much to list, but suffice it to say, I'm very blessed. 

 

I wish you a very Merry Christmas -- A Happy Holiday Season -- and the very best as we start 2013! 

 



Things You May Not Know

Isn't it funny how we are always interested in the little unknown facts about a person we look up to, someone who is famous, someone who is in the news or just the interesting people we meet?  I know I love to read about my favorite actors or authors and find out their secrets, the things they love to do, the things they love.

In that light, I thought I'd let you in on a few things people may not know about me.

1.  I love onion rings, but I hate onions.  I thought I was the only one out there who will order onion rings and tell them to keep the onions off my hamburger.  Funny thing, the more I talk to people, the more I've found others who feel the same.

2.  I once had a pet turkey.  His name was Beep Beep and we raised him from a baby.  He used to follow us around just like a little puppy would.

3.  I'm constantly making lists.  I have notebooks in my purse, next to my bed, on the end table next to my easy chair when I'm watching TV.  Don't know when I started making lists, but now I'm aging (did I really admit that) I don't have to forget what I'm doing because I just have to remember to read my notes!

4.  I hate cooking.  If I never had to go back into the kitchen and make dinner I'd probably do a jig.  My husband laughs because I'll gladly do the clean up if someone else will do the cooking.

5.  I love teddy bears.  In fact, I have one room in my house full of teddy bears.  Actually, nearly every room in my house has some teddy bears, but my living room is so full of them you almost can't sit on the sofa.  Every year my husband gives me a new one for Valentine's Day, and I love it.  He always finds the cutest, cuddly soft teddy bears I've ever seen.

6.  I love to dance, especially a waltz or a polka.  Just wish my husband liked to dance.  Ah well.

7.  I love junior mints -- heck I love chocolate.  I'm definitely a chocoholic.  My motto is, "If it's not chocolate, it aint worth eating" or "Eat dessert first if it's chocolate!"

Black Friday Begins

Thanksgiving is over and Black Friday begins the Christmas Season.  Everyone is looking to buy that perfect gift to make someone especially happy at Christmas.  But admidst all the hustle and bustle, sometimes you need to take some time to chill and relax.  My story, My Guardian Angel, is a wonderful, sweet love story.  It's a perfect way to relax, sit back and let your mind forget all the shopping, all the decorating, and all the things you need to get done.  Since it's a novella, you won't have to take several days to read it like you would a novel, so it's a wonderful way to just take some time for yourself.

Emma felt suddenly shy like a high school girl on her first date.  She scampered towards the house, pausing as she opened the door to look and see if Joe was following her.  He was so close she gasped when his tall lean body brushed up against hers.

 

"Sorry," he mumbled and held the door open.

 

Emma drank in the masculine smell of him, looked up at his full mouth, then ran through the door.  "Have a seat.  Oh, let me take your coat."  She reached quickly and nearly pulled it from his shoulders.  "Would you like some hot chocolate?"  She pushed nervously at her hair, suddenly uncomfortable.  He was a stranger in her house.  She paced, eyes darting over her shoulder to see what he was doing.

 

"Are you uncomfortable with me here?" Joe asked quietly, his eyes never leaving her face.

 

"What?  No.  I...would you prefer I make coffee?" Emma turned towards the sink.  She didn't wait for his reply as she put water in a cup.  Just having him in her home was making her jittery and uncomfortable.

 

"I'd love hot chocolate."

 

"You would?"

 

"Yes, if it's not an imposition."  This time he chuckled at her unease.  "Can I help you with anything?"

 

"Oh, no.  Just have a seat.  Hope you don't mind sitting in the kitchen."

 

He pulled out a wooden kitchen chair with a red-checkered cushion and sat down.  "Not at all."  He noticed the chair cushions matched the bright curtains, thinking it was a very comfortable room.  It fit Emma.  He could picture her serving her family in this room.  A pang of longing filled him.

 

"Here's some cookies.  Wish I could say I made them, but my neighbor brought 'em by."  Emma sat them on the table.  She stood staring at the man sitting in her kitchen, not sure why she felt so nervous.

 

"They're great."  Joe smiled up at Emma.  "Aren't you going to join me?"

 

"Ah, yeah."  Emmna nodded and retrieved the cups of hot chocolate fresh from the microwave.  She glanced uneasily around her kitchen, thinking everything looked a little dated.  Perhaps she should consider some remodeling.  It was something she and Henry had discussed many times but never seemed to find the time or money to do.  She wondered what Joe thought about being in her old kitchen, then pushed the thought from her mind.  Did it really matter what he thought?
