Weddings Are In The Air

It's summer which brings warm weather, flowers, and fun. It's also the time for romance and garden weddings.

If you like romance with a bit of mystery, try my book, Cherry Wood Place. It's available in both ebook and paperback. I'd love to hear how you liked it!

Here's a brief blurb:
“Sleep well.” His voice was so low she had to strain to hear his words.
“I plan to.”
He didn’t move.
She didn’t want him to. It was wonderful having him stand so near. His shoulders were so wide she was sure they would envelope her if he pulled her into an embrace.
She bit her lip, and he stared at her lips.
She gulped again.
He leaned toward her.
Her breath caught as his face came closer.
She watched him move as if in slow motion and found herself leaning toward him as well. Heat spiked in her. Butterflies fluttered in her belly.
Their lips touched. Briefly. Warm and soft and ah, she wanted more.
He pulled back slightly and looked at her. His eyes had changed to warm gold.
She didn’t move. Heat flared on her cheeks, but she couldn’t look away. He was mesmerizing. She craved another kiss.
As if he could read her mind, he kissed her once again.
She met his kiss with fervor, enjoying the way their tongues teased the other. The kiss deepened. She met his passion, enjoying the spicy taste mingled with a hint of the beer he’d drank. When he put his arms around her and pulled her closer, she felt his chest move up and down as he breathed. Her breasts hardened as they were tickled by the feel of his body rubbing hers.
Her arms went around him. Her hands moved across his back feeling the soft cotton of his shirt against the hardness of his muscles. She couldn’t stop herself from sliding her hand along his shoulders and up into the hair at his neckline. Thick and soft all at once.
He groaned and took a tendril of her hair, rubbing it between his fingers, and kissed her again. Soon her pony tail was pulled free and wild tresses cascaded around her shoulders. He tugged her head back and pressed his mouth harder against hers as if trying to bind them together.
Their kiss lingered. Her world spun at the electricity that surrounded them.
When he finally pulled away, the cold air slammed between them and emptiness knifed through her.
She looked into his eyes while her heart pounded. She fought to catch her breath while he ran his thumb down her cheek.
“I should stop.” He whispered.
“No. Not now.” She groaned. “Kiss me again.”
And he did. A kiss hard and full of passionate heat.

Eaton's Ghost - A Yellowstone Ghost Story

Did you know there are lots of ghost stories about Yellowstone National Park?   I found several books about ghosts in Yellowstone. Some of the stories originated back in the 1800s.

I’ve always been intrigued with ghost stories, and because of my love of Yellowstone and some of the stories I’ve heard, I decided to write a ghost story involving Yellowstone, Eaton’s Ghost, A Yellowstone Ghost Story.

In my story you will meet a ghost or two. Yes, there is a scrumptious love story. And yes, you will get a taste of Yellowstone.

Here’s a brief blurb:

Author Bryn McCullough loves ghost stories and Yellowstone National Park is full of them. For her next book, she heads to Yellowstone to research ghosts. Never did she expect to actually meet one.

After losing his wife, Eaton Westfield found solace and a new place to reinvent his life as a photographer in the tourist town of West Yellowstone. On his expeditions into the Park, a ghost appears in his photos. He tries to explain the unusual occurrence as a problem with lighting.

When Bryn and Eaton bump into each other, she is intrigued by the picture of the ghost woman in his pictures. She’s shocked it looks so much like her. He doesn’t believe in ghosts and is determined to prove her ghost theory wrong. They begin a journey of finding the truth. What they discover is a surprise neither expects.

Eaton’s Ghost is available in ebook and paperback through Amazon.com

Birds of Sadness

You can't prevent the birds of sadness
from flying over your head,
but you can keep them from
nesting in your hair.

I haven't blogged in awhile. It seems like life keeps throwing things at me and I find it's hard to get back to my normal groove. Do you ever feel that way?

I've had my father fall and hurt himself and my family tried to take care of him at home but it just didn't work out so we had to move him to an assisted living center. He was very angry, and that is so hard to face. Thankfully, he is starting to get stronger.

But then my husband took sick with pneumonia, and that meant lots of doctor visits and worry before he finally started feeling better. Thank heavens.

Then guess who caught the crud that's been going around, and so I've been working my way through that.

I know -- everyone has woes. Everyone has sickness. Everyone has family issues, and I don't mean to blog because I'm asking for everyone to feel sorry for me. I'm just saying, I've been faced with birds of sadness flying over my head, and I'm sure you have too.

When I saw the above statement, I thought, yes, that's exactly true. Birds of sadness have been flying a little close for comfort, but I'm determined to keep them from nesting in my hair. I made up my mind to smile, to be pleasant even when it's been hard. You know what I mean? When you want to throw things and scream, you force yourself to be nice, to keep your chin up and smile.

Well, that's my words for you today. Don't give in to adversity. Don't throw things -- instead smile and make up your mind you will do your best to be pleasant and happy.

Don't let those birds of sadness take root and make a nest in your life. Life is too short to give up.

Thought for the Week

As you probably can tell, I collect thoughts. All types of thoughts. In fact, I have a file folder on my desk and a binder on a shelf full of them. I also have stacks of them in little nooks and crannies around my house. I love thoughts and little stories that have a message whether it be inspirational, funny, full of love, whatever. I love them!

Here's one I found just this week, and I wanted to share:

The secret of getting ahead is getting started."
                     ....Sally Berger

My first instinct, was duh, we all know that. But as I thought about it, I realized that I've had many dreams of accomplishing things but I never got around to taking that first step, the hard step of starting.

Whether it was doing crafts, cleaning my house, succeeding at work, or writing a book, the hardest part was doing something to get started.

I had the desire for a long time to write a book and get published way before I ever did. Know what my problem was? Taking the time to do it. I had a lot of excuses why I didn't have the time. I didn't know what to do, so I didn't do anything. How did I format my book? I didn't know so I didn't do anything. How did I get it published? Again, it was an excuse not to start. How did I find an editor? What if no one wanted to read it? So many excuses. I drug my feet and didn't do it for years.

Once I finally made up my mind I wanted to write and get published, I started taking little steps. I found the Romance Writers of America. I met other helpful authors. I interviewed agents and editors and publishers at conferences. It was amazing how easily I found out what I needed to do. So I did it! More than ten books later, I'm still writing and enjoying seeing my hard work published.

Do you have a desire to accomplish something? Do it! Take the first step. Forget worrying about failure. Just do it!

Go For It!

I'm often asked what advice I'd give to someone. After thinking about it, I'd tell them - Go For It! Whatever you've dreamed of or wanted to achieve, the world is an open book and you are your only limitation. None of us know what tomorrow will bring so use today wisely. Take a small step toward achieving greatness.

On of my favorite sayings is:

If it is to be
It's up to me.

It's so true. No one can tell you what to do. Oh, sure, you have bosses where you work and you probably should heed what they tell you. But only you can take control of your own destiny. So do it!

I always wanted to be an author. I let a lot of years go by without doing anything about it. When I finally made up my mind to do it, I can't tell you how excited I was to get my first acceptance letter (email in my case) from an editor. Holding my first published book was a feeling I can't describe.

Remember though, I said got for it - you need to take the steps along your journey alone, and it's not always easy, but it can be very rewarding once you start to succeed.

I also didn't promise you'd get rich - no one knows if what you've wanted and strived for will bring you riches. Satisfaction, yes. A sense of self-worth, absolutely. But wealth? So many things determine whether you'll get rich.

I've accomplished my goal of being a published author and the feeling of satisfaction is great. Does that mean I'm done. Heavens no. I have more books to publish, best-selling lists to hit, and so many more goals so I'm not through. I try to do something each day to move forward.

I hope you can accomplish whatever you want to do. It's a new year. Make the decision. Take the first steps to accomplish whatever it is you've wanted and dreamed about. You can do it! So go for it!

Love At First Sight

Love at first sight
is easy to understand.
It's when two people have been
looking at each other for years
that it becomes a miracle.
     ----Unknown

I love this saying.  I remember finding the plaque with this saying on it at a craft fair one year and decided to give it to my folks who had been married over fifty years.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

I remember the day I met my husband. We clicked. Something about him drew me in. We talked all evening and just had a great time.  By the way it was a blind date.  So, some blind dates aren't all bad.

We've been together twenty-seven years.  Most have been pretty good. Notice I didn't say perfect (lol) but we've had a good life together.  And yes, we've both changed over the years. Gotten older.  Hair has turned greyer. We don't have quite the get up and go we used to have, but it's not all bad. We're comfortable together.  Yes, comfortable.

I know people who hate the idea of getting comfortable but I think it's a good thing. We know what each other likes. I even laugh sometimes because it seems we can read each other's mind.  Scary? Sometimes.

Yes, I believe in love at first sight. There's that excitement, that passion, that wonder about what will happen next.  It makes the world go round.  But, after being together for a lot of year, I enjoy the comfortable too.

What about you?

In my newest story, A Tug At My Heart, Catherine and Zed experience the first stirrings of being drawn together even though they are both not in a place to start a new relationship. As they run into each other and spend time together, that stirring in the loins and the beating of their heart definitely pulls them.  Do you think they will survive the test of time?

I'd love to hear your comments.

La Plata, Utah - A Utah Ghost Town

Did you know the town of La Plata, Utah only existed for about three years? Oh, I'm sure there were miners still there after most of the town closed up, but according to my research, the little mining town was only a viable place for three short years from 1891 to 1894.

I came across an interesting tidbit about La Plata. There were no houses of ill repute. When most every western mining town during that period had brothels and cribs for prostitutes, La Plata didn't allow them. There's a story that one day a wagon carrying three young prostitutes came into town and tried to set up business. They were ran out of town because most of the miners were family men from religious families.

I remember visiting the old town site years ago when we could still ride our ATVs up into the town and around the old mine shafts. The street was narrow and rather steep. A small river ran down the side of the road. You could see seen the foundations of some old buildings along each side of the road. Have any of you been to the old town site? If so, I'd love to hear from you.

Doesn't La Plata sound like a great place to use as a setting for a western story? Well, it is in my newest book, A Tug At My Heart.

A Tug At My Heart should be released shortly in e-book format and the print book will be available soon after that.

Writers Are Unique Characters

It's funny, before I started writing and getting published, I was in awe of authors. They were special, talented people. Now I'm a published author, I'm still in awe of the special, talented people who I've met. I belong to the Romance Writers of America and personally call lots of published authors my friends. They are helpful, supportive people. I'm very lucky to know them.

One thing I'm impressed with is how they find the time to accomplish so much -- complete and publish several books a year, raise children, maintain a happy marriage or relationship, and still find time for social activities.

A friend of mine designed some cute T-shirts that read, "I'm an author. I might be alone, but I'm never alone in my head." It's true. At almost any time, we're developing new characters who become part of our souls, who are close to our hearts until the story we're writing is finished. Then we write 'The End' and have to say goodbye to the characters we've tortured and loved.  But the neat part is we get to start all over and meet new ones, decide what they look like, what their flaws are, and what situations we'll throw them into. A writer's world is constantly changing, but that's a good thing because it means there will always be new stories and books being published and I love that idea.

Where do we get our ideas? I know anything can stir my imagination - a television program, a ride in the mountains, or a thought I read. Ideas are everywhere.

But a word of caution -- you or someone created like you could become a character in a story. but it's okay because romance writers always create stories with happy endings!

Just some food for thought as you pick up your next book --

Pets Make Our World Special

Most of us have pets – dogs, cats, birds, horses, goats, even pigs. They add so much enjoyment to our lives. What an empty world it would be without them, don’t you think?

I grew up around horses. My Morgan horse, Rascal, became my friend and confidant.
Everything in life seemed better when I crawled on his back and went for a ride. I loved sitting in the hay barn, enjoying the smell of hay. I’d pour out my heart to my Rascal as he ate from the manager. I knew he was listening because his ears would move back and forth as I talked. Every once in awhile he’d lean up and nuzzle me as if tell me everything will be okay.

He was born on our property, and I started breaking him to ride when he was just two. For over 28 years, he was there for me, and I have so many special memories of spending time with him.  I’ll never forget the day my dad called and told me he’d died.  I lost a special friend that day.

I remember the day my son bought our first yellow lab and named him Max. He was a little six-week old puppy, round ball of fur. We had so much fun with him. When my son decided to get married and couldn’t keep him, we inherited him. He was my husband’s companion after he retired. I don't think my husband went anywhere without that little dog.  He was always part of the family. He loved going for rides with us on our ATVs, and I’ll never forget the time we loaded up the 4-wheelers. Max knew something was up and he crawled up on the trailer, onto the 4-wheeler and he spent the night there. He made sure he wasn’t left behind when we went for rides.

Today we have another yellow lab named Shilo.
He’s three and just getting past the puppy stage. He’s my buddy, and its always amazing to me that I can be busy and not play with him for a day or so, but whenever I go out, he’s there, wagging his tail, thrilled to see me.

My most unique pet was a young turkey. His name became Beep Beep because when he was little, every time we went by the box we kept him in, he’d make a chirping sound like Beep Beep. As he got older, we’d call him and he would coming running and follow us around.

Pets become part of our families, adding happiness, and becoming an integral part of our lives. As I write my stories, you’ll notice that my hero and heroines nearly always have animals in them. A story wouldn’t be real if it didn’t have a dog wagging its tail or a horse wanting to have his neck rubbed. Wouldn’t you agree?

Do you have a special pet? I'd love to hear about it.

Interviewing Irish Winters

I’m pleased to welcome new author, Irish Winters, today.

Irish, it’s good to have you here to talk to us, and I want to say thank you in advance for joining us.
K. R. Bailey:  Tell us a little about yourself.
Irish:  I am the wife of the man of my dreams, the mother of three handsome sons, and the grandmother of six perfect grandchildren. My husband and I live away from the city lights and noise in the countryside of Northern Utah where I spend most of my days writing and every night dreaming of my hero’s next adventure.
K. R. Bailey:  Talk to us about your journey becoming a published author. Have you always wanted to write?
Irish:  I have written short stories and poetry for as long as I can remember, but only recently decided to write a novel. My daughter-in-law, Katie, inspired me to consider publishing. We bounce ideas off each other, laugh about our fictional relationships, and console each other through rejects and harsh critiques.
K. R. Bailey:  I understand you have a new book expected to be released in December, the first in a series of many stories. Tell us a little about your series and your new book.

Irish:  The title of my first book is ALEX, the story of an angry man who has lost the concept of joy in his life. Still suffering from the tragic loss of his wife and child, he is at a point in his life where he’s had enough. He just wants to be left alone. The only flaw to his self-pitying plan is an abused woman named Kelsey. It is in helping her that he begins to remember the gentle man he used to be, and that life truly is a gift. Their journey takes them through murder and mayhem, testing their feelings for each other to the limits. It is only when he stands to lose Kelsey that he must face his worst enemy—himself.
K. R. Bailey:  What inspired your ‘In The Company of Snipers’ Series?
Irish:  The series came about by accident. After I had written ALEX and created his covert surveillance company, it provided the perfect springboard for additional novels. After all, he had to hire specific people for that kind of job. Who better for covert surveillance than ex-military snipers? And who better for a good romance story than a strong warrior who just may have his own backstory, trauma, and angst to deal with? Voila! A series was born.
K. R. Bailey:  If you had to pick a favorite character from your stories, who would it be and why would you choose that person?
Irish:  I love all my guys and gals, but I am partial to Kelsey because she sees right through the tough guy she married. She reminds Alex of the kind man he used to be and still can. She believes in him.
K. R. Bailey:  Can you give us an excerpt from your story?
From ALEX, In the Company of Snipers:
Suddenly, his sniper’s sixth sense pinged. Something wasn’t right. But what? A bear? A cougar? He heard nothing, and the dogs hadn’t raised any alarm. Caution tightened his stride. There sat Smoke, still as stone, his ears pitched forward at something on the porch. He glanced up at Alex, and then right back to whatever—or whoever—was on the porch.
Someone’s in my cabin. Alex pulled his pistol free of its thigh holster. People have a lot of nerve these days.
“What’s up, Smokey?” He kept his voice low, approaching along the side of the log structure with caution. Glancing sideways and around, nothing revealed the source of his anxiety. The weathered porch creaked under his cautious step. He froze.
What the—?
There stood Whisper on the porch with his lips pulled back, his canines bared, and standing protectively over the splayed legs of—a what? A department store mannequin? A dead body? He couldn’t believe what he saw. Those outstretched legs belonged to a young woman sprawled against his cabin door, her head bowed to her chest, her hands limp at her side, palms up. Covered with blackened patches of blood and bruises, she looked dead.
Whisper growled, for an instant threatening both master and canine companion.
“Knock it off.” Alex brushed the dog out of his way, annoyed the mutt thought he could get away with that kind of behavior. There was no contest. This was no fresh kill, and Whisper wouldn’t have won if it were. The dog whined once and backed away, relinquishing the porch to Alex, his tail tucked between his back legs.
Alex knelt beside the woman, feeling her neck for a pulse. It took a few seconds to locate, but a weak beat stuttered beneath his fingertips. Lifting the tangled mass of hair away from her face, he ducked closer to get a better look. Her eyes popped open.
“Don’t hurt me,” she moaned, shielding her face with her arm. “Please—”
“Who are you?” Instantly, he was angry she would say something like that, but she didn’t answer. Her head lolled to her shoulder. He knelt closer, peering into her bloodied face. Did she just die?
“No,” he ground out between clenched teeth. “You started this. You’d better not die on me now.”
Whisper whined, crowding Alex while he eased the woman to her back. “Back off.” He elbowed the dog. “Get out of here.”
Whisper only stepped back two feet, turned a full circle, and came right back.
Alex pressed his ear to the woman’s chest, holding his breath while he listened for a heartbeat. It was there and fairly steady considering how bad she looked-and smelled. Sweat and dirt was not the welcome he had expected at his cabin. Neither was she. A ragged groan sounded deep in her throat. Okay. That was a good sign. Maybe she heard him. Maybe she actually listened and decided not to die.
He sat back on his legs and blew out a deep breath, his heart pounding at this abrupt about-face to what had been a relaxing afternoon walk. Glancing at the immediate forest around his cabin, he searched for a reason this mess of a woman would be here on his porch. There was nothing. No one. Just her.
He ruffled Whisper’s thick black mane. “Sorry, tough guy, but you’ve got to give me some room to work, okay?”
Still trying to calm down, he checked her pulse again and smoothed his hands over her shoulders, down her arms, hips and thighs. It didn’t look like she had anything major wrong with her, no broken legs or arms, but there was plenty of what looked like road-rash across her extremities and dried blood in her hair. As bad as she looked, he was afraid of a gunshot, but he found nothing. A concussion was a possibility, but it’s not like he was a doctor. He’d had some medical training in the Corps. A man didn't survive warfare without knowing how to tourniquet a bloody limb or plug a sucking chest wound, but this was different. This was a woman.
Damn. What do I do now?
Whisper nestled his big black snout over Alex’s shoulder like he was offering free advice with his whine.
“I know.” Alex scratched the dog’s nose. “You found her. Now what do we do with her? You got any bright ideas?”
Whisper slapped the porch once with his moose-sized paw.
“No. You can’t keep her. She’s not a toy,”

K. R. Bailey:  What are you currently working on?
Irish:  Self-Publishing ALEX! When I’m not stressing over that, I am polishing Book #11 – ADAM, and editing Book #3 – ZACK. Oh yes, and Book #12 is already 15,000 words and counting, so yeah. I’m a writer.
K. R. Bailey:  Who has had the most influence on you as an author?
Irish:  My mother, Mary Rose Meagher. She always believed and although she watches me from the other side of the veil today, I know those Irish eyes are still smiling.
K. R. Bailey:  What was the first book you read that made you love reading romance? Do you have a favorite author?
Irish:  Definitely Jane Eyre, by English writer Charlotte Brontë. Ooooh! The angst of Mr. Rochester, the ideal bad boy – a married man! Oh, my!
My favorite author? Right now - Tiffinie Helmer. I want to write like her when I grow up! (So loved Garrett in ‘Hooked.” What is it about a guy in uniform?)
K. R. Bailey:  Do you do anything special to set the mood for you to write?
Irish:  I light a scented candle, shut the door to my office, and invite my guys and gals in to join me. I write no matter what. Some days it is total crap, but the next morning, after my brain has worked overnight, a better story emerges from the muck. I get my best ideas when I sleep. Don’t you?
K. R. Bailey:  I understand you’re a very prolific writer. Tell us about your writing day.
Irish:  I follow the philosophy of Nike—JUST DO IT!
That means I start each day at 5AM (sometimes sooner, sometimes later), enter the alternate universe of my office, and I write in my pajamas until my husband rolls out of bed. Depending on what his plans are for the day, I usually return to my office and write until dinnertime. Sometimes later. Sometimes all day. After all, I am retired.
K. R. Bailey:  What’s the one thing you do to pamper yourself?
Irish:  A good margarita works wonders.
K. R. Bailey:  We’re just going into the holiday season. As an author, how do you juggle your schedule to find time to write and still enjoy the season?
Irish:  That is a lot like asking me how do I breathe during the holidays. Writing is not something I have to find time for. It’s who I am. I cannot imagine a day without it.
K. R. Bailey:  Do you have a holiday memory that stands out in your mind?
Irish:  My first Christmas with my husband. We were so poor and so stupidly in love; could hardly afford a Christmas tree. That was forty plus years ago. My only thought then was that if we were together, that was all we needed. Guess it worked.
K. R. Bailey:  If you could give an aspiring writer some advice, what would it be?
Irish:  A great man once told me that if you really want to do something, no one can stop you. BUT – if you really don’t want to do something, no one can help you. Follow the advice of NIKE – Just do it. Decide. Now. Today. Do it!
K. R. Bailey:  How can readers find out more about your stories?
Irish:  Check out my web-site: IrishWinters.com.
            Blog: IrishWinters.blogspot.com
K. R. Bailey:  How can readers contact you?
Irish:  Web-site: IrishWinters.com.
K. R. Bailey:  Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
Irish:  Thank you, Kathy for inviting me! This has been fun. To all my readers and fellow writers, Merry Christmas! May you all receive exactly what you wish for in the coming year!

Thanks for joining us. I know I’m looking forward to your In The Company of Snipers books.

Kate's Song - A Great Read

I just finished reading Kate's Song by Jennifer Beckstrand.  It's a sweet, easy read that pulls you into the Amish Community of Apple Lake.

Her heroine - Kate - has a beautiful singing voice and has been offered an opportunity of a lifetime, but it goes against everything she's been raised to believe.  Now she has a decision to make that will affect the rest of her life -- follow her dream or choose the only life she's ever known.

Her hero - a young Amish Man - Nathanial - has loved Kate since they were youngsters, but is his love enough?

You'll find yourself rooting for them both, and the story will keep you reading right up until the last page.  You'll definitely enjoy this book -- it was a very enjoyable read.

I Love Fall!

Today we drove up to our cabin, and it's breathtakingly beautiful. The colors aren't as vibrant as they are some other years, but the sky is a robins-egg blue with only a few wispy clouds. The temperature is balmy, a relief from the unusually hot summer we've had.

We took a drive through the mountains and saw several does with their fawns milling about, probably enjoying the moisture from last night's rainstorm as it sits on the leaves they feed on.

It's beautiful and peaceful -- a perfect way to spend the day.  I hope you're enjoying your day as much as I am mine.

And while you're enjoying your day, don't forget my newest story -- One Stormy Night -- will be available September 25 exclusively on Amazon.com

Have a great day.

One Stormy Night

My newest novella - One Stormy Night - will be released September 25, 2013 exclusively for Kindle!

Here's a short blurb:
How can a hunting trip go terribly wrong?

Evie loves to hunt, and she's a better shot than any man. Scott is fun-loving and sexy -- the perfect companion. But what starts out as a wonderful date turns deadly when they witness a terrible crime and must flee for their lives.

Evie and Scott begin their day laughing and teasing, but car trouble and a freak blizzard force them to seek refuge in a deserted farmhouse.  Once they get a fire started, the farmhouse seems like the perfect -- and perfectly romantic -- place to wait for help until three strangers arrive carrying assault weapons.

When they witness a murder, Evie and Scott must escape back into the frigid, snowy darkness to hide from the criminals. Only by relying on each other can they survive.

One Stormy Night is an action and suspense-filled story with enough spice to keep things interesting and enough suspense to keep you turning the pages.

One Stormy Night was a fun story to write.  I think you'll enjoy it.  And for anyone who doesn't have a kindle, One Stormy Night will be available in January in all electronic formats.

Lightning Only Strikes Twice

I just finished reading a new book by Stanalei Fletcher -- Lightning Only Strikes Twice.  I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a great book.  Ms. Fletcher puts a unique twist on a western historical time travel that pulls you into the story and holds you right to the end. I'm looking forward to reading other books by Stanalei Fletcher.

Love - Anytime

I just returned from a trip visiting my sister in Colorado.  We spent one of the days in Estes Park and at one of the small stores, I saw this thought.  I loved it and wanted to share.

Love me when I don't deserve it
Because that's when I need it most.
                  ---unknown

Isn't that a great thought?  How often do you crave someone to give you a hug after you've spoken out of turn?  Aren't there times when you crave someone telling you they love you when you've having a bad day? I know I do.

Here's wishing you love when you do deserve it and even when you don't!

Did You Know?

I love hummingbirds.  My family knows that the first thing I do when we get to our cabin is go get my feeders and fill them.  I think hummingbirds are amazing little birds.  Watching them fascinates me.  You'll find I include hummingbirds in many of my stories because I do love them.

Thought I'd share a few facts about hummingbirds I found in a book I have titled, Hummingbirds of The American West by Lynn Hassler.

1.  They can fly up, down, sideways, backwards and have the fastest wing beat rate of any birds.  Their wing beat can exceed 72 times per second.  One of their remarkable characteristics is they can hover. It's hard to image their wings beat 72 times per second, isn't it?  The energy they exude is amazing.

2.  They have feet but their legs are very short and they are unable to walk or hop.

Isn't this albino a beautiful hummingbird?  I've never seen one in person but I'd love to.

3.  There are over 320 species of hummingbirds.  The closer you get to the equator, the more species you'll find.  In the United States, the greatest number of species is in the West.

4.  Every day they must consume half of their weight in food because they burn up their fuel so quickly.  They usually feed 5 - 8 times per hour.  The rest of the time they are digesting.  Flower nectar is their primary food source, but in its absence, they'll eat tiny insects and spiders, gnats, flies, mosquitos, aphids and flying ants as well as oozing tree sap.  Did you know that?  I was amazed that they eat small bugs.  I was under the impression that they only drink the nectar from a feeder or from the flowers.

5.  They are very territorial and often chase other birds away.

6.  They don't sing like other birds.  Vocalizations tend to be squeaks, whistles, chirps, cheeps, ticks, clacks, hums, and buzzing.

7.  Males mate with multiple females each season. Females do all the next building, incubation and tending of young.  Their eggs are about the size of lima beans, and the female generally lays two eggs about a day apart.  Babies are born blind and without feathers.

8.  Their lifespan is about 3-5 years.

Just a few facts.  I hope you learned a little about hummingbirds and found some of these facts interesting.

Have a great day.

Friends - Our Angels

Friends are our Angels in Life
They help us through anything
         ---Nanci Johnson

I came across this thought filed away on my computer and just had to repost it.  Ms. Johnson is so right. Good friends are angels to stand by us no matter what. They support us when we feel inadequate. They listen when we need to talk. They offer love when we feel that we are unloved. They encourage us to be the best we can be.

I have a couple of good friends who have been by my side through thick and thin. One of them is also my sister and I feel so blessed to have had her in my life. She is always so supportive of everything I want to do and doesn’t hesitate to encourage me or even discourage me if she feels I need to be sure I know what I’m getting myself into.

I have several other friends who are not related, but to me they are an intregal part of my life and I don't know what I'd ever do without them. They have listened and understood me, stood by me, and given of their time and energy to make sure I had what I needed to go on every day even when I’ve been blue. We’ve shared so much over the past years and every day I thank my Lord for them.

I try to include good friends in each of my stories. My life has been enriched by good friends, and I think my stories are better when I have my hero and heroine enjoy good friends too.

I urge you to remember your good friends.  Enjoy every aspect of spending time with your friends.  Remember -- you have to be a good friend back!
