Happiness

Happiness is like a butterfly
The more you chase it
The more it eludes you,
But if you turn your attention to other things,
It comes and softly sits upon your shoulder.

I love this thought. Just wanted to share it and hopefully you can find your own way to happiness.

Have a great week!

Thought For The Month

I hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful fall. I know I have. The leaves have changed, but while they were in the process, the vivid colors took my breath away.
Hunting season is upon us -- at least in my family. My husband and my boys are avid hunters and they have been out searching the hills for a big bull elk, a lone buck deer, and the have had some pretty good luck.

I just spent a fun-filled weekend at the Utah Chapter of Romance Writers of America Conference where I got to meet Kristan Higgins and Brenda Novak as well as other great writers like RaeAnne Thayne and Dean Wesley Smith. Such inspirations. Learned a lot. Mingled with other writers and friends, and topped off the weekend at our Utah RWA 2nd Annual Readers Luncheon. It was a fantastic weekend.

Since coming home, going through all the books and notes and collectibles brought the following thought to mind. I want to share it with you.

I still find each day too short
For all the thoughts I want to think
All the books I want to read
All the walks I want to take
All the friends I want to see.

I hope you enjoy your fall. Take time to fill your days with good things.

And, don't forget, my newest short story - Hunting Honeymoon is now available exclusively through Amazon.com.
A week of perfection
Or Recipe for Disaster?

Birds of Sadness

You can't prevent the birds of sadness
from flying over your head,
but you can keep them from
nesting in your hair.

I haven't blogged in awhile. It seems like life keeps throwing things at me and I find it's hard to get back to my normal groove. Do you ever feel that way?

I've had my father fall and hurt himself and my family tried to take care of him at home but it just didn't work out so we had to move him to an assisted living center. He was very angry, and that is so hard to face. Thankfully, he is starting to get stronger.

But then my husband took sick with pneumonia, and that meant lots of doctor visits and worry before he finally started feeling better. Thank heavens.

Then guess who caught the crud that's been going around, and so I've been working my way through that.

I know -- everyone has woes. Everyone has sickness. Everyone has family issues, and I don't mean to blog because I'm asking for everyone to feel sorry for me. I'm just saying, I've been faced with birds of sadness flying over my head, and I'm sure you have too.

When I saw the above statement, I thought, yes, that's exactly true. Birds of sadness have been flying a little close for comfort, but I'm determined to keep them from nesting in my hair. I made up my mind to smile, to be pleasant even when it's been hard. You know what I mean? When you want to throw things and scream, you force yourself to be nice, to keep your chin up and smile.

Well, that's my words for you today. Don't give in to adversity. Don't throw things -- instead smile and make up your mind you will do your best to be pleasant and happy.

Don't let those birds of sadness take root and make a nest in your life. Life is too short to give up.

Thought for November

Today is the oldest you've ever been
Yet the youngest you'll ever be
So enjoy this day while it lasts.

I smiled when I read this because it is such a simple idea and so very true. I wonder how many of us really give this much thought. I know I really hadn't. I just get up each morning and go through life, doing the things I need to do. I never think that this is the youngest I'll ever be. I guess that's because I never think of myself being young. I wanted to share the idea with you.

Here's another one that was printed on the board at a doctor's office. It gives us some good ways to think about the things that happen to us each day.

Never regret a day in your life.
Good days give you happiness
Bad days give you experiences
Both are essential in life
All are Gold's blessings.

Have a good day. I hope I've given you some tidbits to think about as you go about your day.

Happy Reading!

Thought for the Week

As you probably can tell, I collect thoughts. All types of thoughts. In fact, I have a file folder on my desk and a binder on a shelf full of them. I also have stacks of them in little nooks and crannies around my house. I love thoughts and little stories that have a message whether it be inspirational, funny, full of love, whatever. I love them!

Here's one I found just this week, and I wanted to share:

The secret of getting ahead is getting started."
                     ....Sally Berger

My first instinct, was duh, we all know that. But as I thought about it, I realized that I've had many dreams of accomplishing things but I never got around to taking that first step, the hard step of starting.

Whether it was doing crafts, cleaning my house, succeeding at work, or writing a book, the hardest part was doing something to get started.

I had the desire for a long time to write a book and get published way before I ever did. Know what my problem was? Taking the time to do it. I had a lot of excuses why I didn't have the time. I didn't know what to do, so I didn't do anything. How did I format my book? I didn't know so I didn't do anything. How did I get it published? Again, it was an excuse not to start. How did I find an editor? What if no one wanted to read it? So many excuses. I drug my feet and didn't do it for years.

Once I finally made up my mind I wanted to write and get published, I started taking little steps. I found the Romance Writers of America. I met other helpful authors. I interviewed agents and editors and publishers at conferences. It was amazing how easily I found out what I needed to do. So I did it! More than ten books later, I'm still writing and enjoying seeing my hard work published.

Do you have a desire to accomplish something? Do it! Take the first step. Forget worrying about failure. Just do it!

Thought for Today

Happiness is not a destination -- It's a way of life.
      ---unknown

Had to share.  Saw this is a magazine and thought how true. Sometimes we just have to make happiness what we want in life -- It's definitely the destination we work toward, but I also think we need to decide to be happy, look positive at things, and life will be good to us. Too often, it's easy to slide into the negative and think badly about people, things, the weather, etc. My goal is to think positive. Smile even when I don't feel like it. I want people to think of me as happy.

What do you think?

Friends

Good friends are like stars ...  You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.

I really liked this thought and wanted to share it.  I've been lucky to have really wonderful friends.  Friends who I know are there for me through everything life has thrown at me.  I have a husband who is my best friend and soul mate.  I have a sister who has always been my confident, supporter and listener.  I have so many great friends.  I hope each of you do too.  And if you do, be sure to be a great friend back.  Nurture your friendships.  They can hold a special place in your heart.

Life is not waiting for the storms to pass ....
It's about learning how to dance in the rain.

I don't know who wrote the above but I loved it. How many of us take the time to enjoy today, no matter what the day brings. If its raining, take time to read a good book. If the sun is shining, how about a walk to enjoy the beautiful things nature gives us. If you're alone, enjoy yourself, do something just for you. Stay in touch with friends, family, or perhaps an elderly relative who you haven't talked to in ages. Most of all, be grateful for what you have and learn to enjoy each day. None of us have any guarantees about tomorrow!
